Continues to volunteer every year
"I began working with Mdumbi and TransCape in January 2008. Kathryn supported and opened a space for me to learn alongside her and three amazing teachers (Nolutho, Kholiswa and Nokubonga) as we worked together to create a curriculum and programs for Mdumbi Preschool.
My experience with this work has been nothing less than one serendipitous moment after another. I feel I am doing work I am purposed to do and learning more than I ever imagined learning. The process for volunteer learning work at this site is organic and meaningful (not like many cookie-cutter volunteer programs). I will be returning soon to continue learning and working with this fabulous group of people. I do not see this work as "something I did once as a volunteer" but rather, as something that I am part of and is part of me."

Volunteered for two years
"My experience volunteering with TransCape has given me great insight into the complexity of poverty in the rural Eastern Cape, and also the diversity of ways that people living here are challenging it. TransCape's overall approach of supporting communities to run their own activities has allowed great potential to rise from the ground. To have engaged in part of this process of change has been a hugely rewarding experience ."
